We can never give an adequate account of the difference the NSP has made to the life of our organization. For more than 12 years our main operational focus has been sterilizing the dogs and cats of this area. During our early years the Municipality helped finance this endeavor, for which we are extremely grateful, and today they still cover the annual cost of 2 of our 10 clinics. We work in the impoverished areas of Genadendal, Voorstekraal, Bereaville and Bosmanskloof. Employment is hard to find and many people work for very low wages as farm laborers. Paying for these clinics has always been difficult when we are faced with other veterinary bills totaling over R70 000,00 annually. Currently we are up to date with our sterilization project and will only leave an animal unsterilized if the owner refuses help. We choose not to work with these people and they have to seek private veterinary aid for their animals instead. Hard work is currently being done by ourselves in our Municipality (Theewaterskloof) to get legislation adopted, making sterilization obligatory.
We believe that, with your help, we can continue to make a huge difference in the lives of these animals we love so much. Reducing the number of unwanted puppies reduces the number of abused, malnourished, diseased and neglected dogs. We are so convinced about the benefits of our program that we have embarked on a sterilization program in neighboring Riviersonderend, 35 Km away, where there is presently no functioning welfare organization. On 25 March we have organized a mass sterilization day.
From all the board members, we can only offer an extremely inadequate “Thank you”- you have changed our lives!
